Infrastructure :
Jointly with the Botany Department, an Herbal Garden
Maintenance committee is being run. In this Herbal Garden,
besides some botanical components the department has a
butterfly-rearing house. The department has a field Lab in the
herbal Garden itself and the adjoining hills, which are also
the property of the College.
(a) The
Department monitors overall performance of the students through
regularly conducting unit tests, seminar, group discussion,
fieldwork etc.
(b) The
teachers update themselves by attending U G C sponsored
orientation course, Refresher course, attending workshops,
seminar, group discussion, etc.
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES FROM 2000 TO 2007
-
Technical Education on Modern Fishery : The Fishery Extension Officers of Bongaigaon District Fishery
Development Office delivered some special lectures to the
students of Third year B. Sc. students of Zoology Major from
17 June to 19 June 2004. Subsequently a short excursion trip
was made to Goroimari induced breeding center on 20 June.

Contour map preparation workshop
: Sri Subhash Das, then Demonstrator of Bongaigaon
Polytechnique delivered a lecture on how to draw a contour
map of a study area, followed by a practical demonstration in
the Herbal Garden in the college campus on 12 April 2004.

Visit to
Pygmy Hog Conservation Breeding Center
: Under the
guidance of Dr. Hilloljyoti Singha, lecturer, Deptt. of
Zoology and Mr. Hemanta K Saud, lecturer, Dept. of Economics,
a team of 13 students visited the center on 28 March 2004 and
attended lecture from Dr. Goutam Narayan, Programme Manager
of the Center. (It has been repeated in later period also by
subsequent batches).

Field
study tour to Kakoijana Reserve Forest
: 19 students of
‘Biology’ Department visited Kakoijana RF on 22 November 2002
along with six teachers for a field excursion.

Khagarpur Hill visit :
Students of Botany and Zoology
Deptt. visited Khagarpur Hill for a day-long field trip on 31
December 2002.

Paglar
Tek visit
Students of Botany and Zoology Deptt. visited
Paglar Tek near the river Brahmaputra for a day-long field
trip on 5 January 2004..

Workshop
on Biodiversity : A workshop was held in the Birjhora
Kanya Mahavidyalaya on 28 January 2004: The resource persons
were Dr. Hilloljyoti Singha, Deptt of Zoology, Mr. Ananta
Borah, Deptt. of Botany and Mr. Hemanta K Saud, Deptt. of
Economics.

MOU for
Health Unit
: Dr. M. C. Sarmah, Senior Medical Officer,
BRPL Hospital, Dhaligaon did a Memorandum of Understanding
with the college Health Unit headed by Sri Biplab K Saha,
senior lecturer of Zoology Deptt. for all purposes regarding
health.

Health
Check-up Camp : On 12 September 2003, a health check up
camp was organized where all the students and teachers
including the office employees took part in. The grouping of
blood was done.
SEMINARS ORGANIZED BY ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT

September 2003. Dr. Firoz Ahmed, Sub-divisional Medical &
Health Officer, Bongaigaon delivered a talk on
“AIDS and
health awareness.”

September 2003. Sri Bibhuti Prasad Lahkar, Organizing
Secretary, Aaranyak, a society of biodiversity conservation
in northeast India presented a lecture on
“Present status and
conservation of Manas National Park.”

11 October
2003. Sri Kaushik Deuti, a scientist from Zoological Survey
of India, Kolkata delivered a presentation on
‘A talk on
wildlife of Sundarban’.

22 November
2003. Sri Abdul Wakid, a research scholar of Dibrugarh
University presented a lecture on ‘Status and conservation of
River Dolphin’.
